Thank you to all of the attendees that made our 2nd Annual Beacon of Hope event a huge success.  This year's event was held at the Crest Theater and 600 attendees celebrated Cottage Housing and honored Tom Gagen, CEO of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, and his work on behalf of the cities homeless.  A variety of vendors provided great food and drink for the evening, including Mulvaney's, Aioli, Tapa the World and drink from Java City and Naked Coffee to name just a few. Those in attendance got to also experience a great program with inspirational words from Cottage Housing participants Elizabeth Nichols, Andrea Nelson, Isaac Taylor and Kathleen (Kat) Thurston and entertainment from guitarist George Sheldon, poet Terry Moore, drum group Taiko Dan, choral group The Village Voices Choir, dance group CORE Dance Collective, and singer Meghan Gibbons.

The Beacon of Hope event raised $85,000 for CHI's programs.

Thank you to all of the attendees and supporters that made our first annual Beacon of Hope event at the Crest Theatre June 30 a huge success.  The 600+ attendees enjoyed sampling a variety of desserts from vendors such as Cupcake Cravings and Le Cordon Bleu College of Cullinary Arts before entering the theatre to enjoy famous speeches from the likes of Nelson Mandela and Robert F. Kennedy, read by local dignitaries and entertainment from Native American flutist Mary Youngblood, poet Terry Moore and the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the first Beacon of Hope Award to Bishop Francis Quinn, who helped spearhead Cottage Housing, Inc. in 1995. Mayor Kevin Johnson presented the award to Bishop Quinn and went off script to thank the retired bishop for being a living example of compassion and champion of human rights in the community.

We were able to raise $132,000 from the event, which kicked off our Home Run! Initiative expansion efforts. Read more about our goal to increase housing for the homeless in Sacramento and donate to the cause

NEWS

1st Beacon of Hope Honoree Bishop Francis Quinn

On October 28, 29 and 30, Serna Village is going to be turned into a haunt for ghosts, ghouls and goblins, all for a very good cause. Participants are running a Haunted House to raise funds for our Resident Council.

The money raised from our Night of Terror Haunted House makes it possible for us to assist residents in purchasing college books and supplies, work necessities, as well as giving us an opportunity to plan activities with our children over the holidays. Resident Council funds also support our Ambassadorship team in their efforts to make Serna Village known in our community through volunteering and presentations made by our residents, telling their stories about how Serna has helped to break the cycle of homelessness for them.

So come on out with the family, get scared, and support a good cause!
