An event to benefit the expansion of programs at Cottage Housing Inc.

Thank you to all of the attendees and supporters that made our first annual Beacon of Hope event at the Crest Theatre June 30 a huge success. The 600+ attendees enjoyed sampling a variety of desserts from vendors such as Cupcake Cravings and Le Cordon Bleu College of Cullinary Arts before entering the theatre to enjoy famous speeches from the likes of Nelson Mandela and Robert F. Kennedy, read by local dignitaries and entertainment from Native American flutist Mary Youngblood, poet Terry Moore and the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the first Beacon of Hope Award to Bishop Francis Quinn, who helped spearhead Cottage Housing, Inc. in 1995. Mayor Kevin Johnson presented the award to Bishop Quinn and went off script to thank the retired bishop for being a living example of compassion and champion of human rights in the community.
We were able to raise $132,000 from the event, which kicked off our Home Run! Initiative expansion efforts. Read more about our goal to increase housing for the homeless in Sacramento and donate to the cause.
